Yes. I bill insurance with UnitedHealthcare (and subsidiaries), Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, Cigna, VA CCN Optum, First Health, and First Choice Health. Most insurances cover lactation services at no cost to you. When you reach out, I will verify your insurance ahead of our visit so that you know exactly what is covered.
If I don’t bill with your insurance company, I have cash-pay options and can provide a receipt of our visit with instructions for you to submit to your insurance for possible reimbursement.

Initial visits take about 90 minutes. We will review pertinent health history for baby/mom, discuss how feeding is going, what your feeding goals are, and if you have any concerns. We’ll usually do a weighted feed - I’ll weigh baby on my hospital-grade infant scale before and after a feed to know exactly how much milk they transferred. I’ll do a full feeding assessment and oral assessment (if wanted) to assess latch, positioning, infant suck/tongue function, breast/nipple anatomy, and feeding comfort. Based on appointment goals, we may review your pump, bottle feeding information, or flange sizing.
Following the appointment, you’ll receive a recap of our visit and we’ll discuss follow-up care, if needed.

Yes, for those outside the Omaha area, I offer telehealth visits through a secure video platform. These visits are a way for families who live farther from skilled breastfeeding support to get the help they are looking for.
Having a support person available is helpful, but not necessary, for holding technology during feeding assessment.

Yes, I offer 1:1 meetings for prenatal breastfeeding education. It is a great way to prepare during pregnancy. I encourage this visit during your third trimester. Prenatal education visits take 60 minutes and we’ll cover the first latch, milk production, positioning, common questions, what to expect in the first 2 weeks, and more.
Support person recommended. Insurance often covers these visits! We’ll verify your coverage beforehand.

I have my bachelor’s degree from Iowa State University. Shortly after college, a friend told me I should consider becoming a lactation consultant. I had no idea what the job was! After working for several years and becoming a mother, I took an interest in lactation and breastfeeding support. I completed the required lactation education courses, 14 health science classes, a 500+ hour internship on a hospital postpartum floor and outpatient clinic supporting breastfeeding moms/babies, and then sat for the IBLCE board exam to earn the International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) credential.

Many insurances cover 6+ visits. Often a follow-up visit is helpful after the initial consult, but it’s up to you and how breastfeeding is going! I often see moms for several visits to cover not only the initial newborn phase but pumping/return to work and any issues that arise in your breastfeeding journey.

I travel the Omaha metro area, including Papillion, La Vista, Bellevue, Bennington, Gretna, Ralston, Elkhorn, and Council Bluffs (IA). Pending availability, I may be able to travel to towns outside that range, or I may recommend a virtual visit.

When you schedule your first appointment, you’ll have access to the patient portal. After the appointment you’ll be able to send visit-related questions through the secure messaging system. If you have questions on a new issue, I may recommend a follow-up visit for further assessment.
